Join leading ophthalmologists Dr Dennis Lowe, Dr Jason Cheng, Dr Germaine Gock, Dr David Woo and Dr Christopher Go from Sydney CBD Eye Clinic for an engaging evening of learning, networking, and insightful presentations on acute vision loss, dry eye disease, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and medical/surgical retina. This will be an event you do not want to miss!

Acute Loss of Vision by Dr Dennis Lowe

  1. What to look for during examination in acute loss of vision 
  2. Differential diagnosis of acute vision loss 
  3. How to determine appropriate referral steps and any red flag symptoms requiring immediate referral


    After initially becoming a fully qualified neurologist, Dr Lowe went on to train to become an ophthalmic surgeon. He is the only practitioner in Australia to hold these dual specialties. With vast experience, Dr Lowe has particular interest in ophthalmic surgery (cataract and laser), medical retina, neurologically related eye disease as well as general ophthalmology.


    He completed his specialist training through Sydney Eye Hospital with further study at Moorfields Eye Hospital in the UK. Dr Lowe enjoys participating in charitable/pro-bono surgical training and teaching here and overseas (Vietnam Vision Project, Sight for All Foundation, Australian Health Humanitarian Aid, ACPPRC). He also currently holds teaching positions at Sydney University and UNSW affiliated teaching hospitals.



    Common Glaucoma Medications & Therapies by Dr Jason Cheng

    1. Understand the common glaucoma medication options

    Dr Jason Cheng is an experienced surgeon with a special interest in glaucoma management (including trabeculectomy, tube implant, angle surgery and MIGS) and is also a highly skilled cataract surgeon.

    Dr Cheng received his Bachelor of Science in Clinical Sciences from Imperial College London in 2002, followed by his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 2003. He then held several positions across Australia and the UK, before undertaking his specialist ophthalmology training at Western Eye Hospital, Moorfields Eye Hospital and Hillingdon Hospital in the UK. He completed his sub-specialty training through a fellowship in glaucoma at the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and Kings College Hospital in the UK and Toronto Western Hospital in Canada, where he was involved in the glaucoma teaching program for residents.

    Dr Cheng has strong research interests and is currently involved in research projects to improve quality of treatment for glaucoma patients through medication, laser and surgery. He has also been part of several commercial and multicentre trials and has multiple first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters on glaucoma.



    Diabetes and the Eye - More than Diabetic Retinopathy by Dr Germaine Gock

    1. Appreciate the importance of routine eye screening for retinopathy in individuals with diabetes
    2. Understand the specific challenges and considerations in cataract surgery for patients with diabetes
    3. Distinguish between different types of glaucoma and their relevance to diabetes.
    4. Identify ocular conditions where diabetes is a possible risk factor
    5. Recognise conditions that can mimic diabetic retinopathy
    6. Be aware of the importance of early detection, appropriate management, and timely referral to ophthalmologists for treatment.


    Dr Germaine Gock is an established practitioner who has particular interests in diabetic eye disease & medical retina, glaucoma and oculoplastics. Dr Gock is also a Designated Aviation Ophthalmologist (DAO) and Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME).

    Dr Gock graduated from the University of Sydney with Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (Honours), and was awarded the Robert Craig Prize in Surgery as an undergraduate. Dr Gock completed ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital followed by further advanced surgical training in the UK. She completed a Fellowship in General Ophthalmology in Plymouth, Devon, obtained extensive experience in Medical Retina in Birmingham, UK and completed a Fellowship in oculoplastics surgery in Oxford, UK. She was awarded Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in 2000 and awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2000 (by examination).

    Dr Gock has had previous public hospital appointments at Bathurst Base Hospital and Lithgow Hospital but is currently consulting only in private practice in Sydney.



    Dry Eye Disease - Clinical & Therapeutic Management by Dr David Woo

    Dr David Woo is an ophthalmic and oculoplastics surgeon based in Sydney. He completed his specialist training through Sydney Eye Hospital and qualified as a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO).

    Dr Woo underwent further advanced sub-specialty training in Oculoplastics in the United Kingdom as well as in large Oculoplastics centres in Asia. In addition to completing his medical degree from UNSW, he has also completed a Master’s degree in Ophthalmic sciences (post-graduate) from the Sydney University.

    As a current fellow of RANZCO, Dr Woo is focused on delivering excellent patient-centred care. He is also committed to ongoing Ophthalmic clinical research and has actively attended international conferences and published various research papers in peer review journals.



    Common Retinal Conditions and their OCT Findings by Dr Christopher Go

    1. How to interpret OCT findings 
    2. How to diagnose common retinal conditions such as wet AMD, DR, vein occlusions 
    3. How to differentiate between common retinal conditions.


    Dr Christopher Go is a subspecialised vitreoretinal ophthalmologist with extensive experience in the medical and surgical management of retinal and macular disorders. He offers care for conditions including epiretinal membrane, macular holes and macular degeneration, as well as retinal vein occlusions, retinal detachment, diabetic eye disease and floaters.

    Having completed four rigorous clinical retinal fellowships in Liverpool UK, Hong Kong, Melbourne and Taiwan, Dr Go is a skilled surgeon with internationally accredited expertise in complex vitreoretinal and cataract cases involving scleral buckles, vitrectomies, premium intraocular lenses (IOLs) and sutureless scleral-fixated IOLs.

    In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Go is an examiner for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO), Adjunct Associate Lecturer at the University of New South Wales and Conjoint Clinical Lecturer at Sydney University.
