YO WEBINAR: No Pressure, Let's Dive into Glaucoma

Interested in the complexities of glaucoma management in patients during pregnancy and when breastfeeding? Wondering how you play a part in glaucoma co-management, particularly in regional settings? Or wanting answers for anything glaucoma-related that you haven't had a chance to ask?


In this webinar, we are fortunate to have Dr Daniel Athavale present interactive case studies on glaucoma patients at various stages and explore co-management opportunities. He will also provide insights into glaucoma management for patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and discuss new and novel surgical devices that are currently being used in glaucoma treatment.


Dr Daniel Athavale

Dr Athavale is an Australian-based ophthalmologist with special interests in complex cataract and glaucoma filtration surgery, and MIGS. He completed his specialist training through Sydney Eye Hospital and undertook a fellowship in glaucoma surgery at Bristol Eye Hospital in the UK. He is currently based in Tamworth and services the north-west NSW region. He has also worked in other locations within Australia including Canberra, Tasmania, Bathurst and regional parts of Queensland. He is dedicated to providing ophthalmology services to regional and rural communities and is passionate about teaching and education.


Learning Outcomes

  1. Understand the rationale for treatment of normal tension glaucoma
  2. Understand the potential adverse drug reactions of commonly used topical glaucoma medications
  3. Understand and be able to escalate the care of patients with progressive glaucomatous optic neuropathy
  4. Recognise emergencies and referral pathways in glaucoma
  5. Gain insight into the management of glaucoma in pregnancy and while breastfeeding
  6. Gain insight into the co-management of glaucoma between Optometrist and Ophthalmologist
  7. Recognise that glaucoma may be secondary to systemic diseases 
  8. Appreciate the new or novel surgical devices used in glaucoma management
