Unsure how to assess a patient with watery eyes or when to manage versus refer? Want hands-on experience performing a lacrimal lavage? Join us for an interactive workshop exploring the causes of watery eyes, with practical training in lacrimal syringing and guidance on appropriate management and referral pathways.

Learning Objectives:

Understand the causes of watery eyes
Be confident in assessing watery eyes, and in explaining to patients
Gain practical skills in performing lacrimal syringing
Know how to manage patients and which patients are appropriate to refer

About Dr Kenny Chan:

Dr Kenny Chan is an experienced ophthalmologist and ophthalmic surgeon with a sub-specialised interest in oculoplastic surgery. He has 10+ years of clinical experience, and his areas of expertise include eyelid, lacrimal and orbital surgery, cataract surgery and general ophthalmology.

Dr Chan studied medicine and surgery at the University of Melbourne, after being awarded the prestigious Melbourne National Scholarship. After graduating with honours, he underwent general ophthalmology training at the Sydney Eye Hospital. After completing a fellowship in comprehensive ophthalmology at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, he undertook additional sub-specialty fellowship training in Oculoplastics Surgery in Liverpool, UK and the Singapore National Eye Centre in Singapore. Dr Chan also has a special interest in refractive surgery, having completed a Graduate Diploma in Refractive Surgery at the University of Sydney.

Dr Chan has a strong interest in clinical research and teaching. He has published multiple papers in local and international peer-reviewed journals and has presented his research at international conferences such as the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society and the European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He regularly attends international meetings to stay at the forefront of current techniques and technology. He is involved teaching registrars and medical students, having been appointed as a conjoint associate lecturer at both the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales. In addition to English, Dr Chan is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin.

Special Interests

Tailoring bespoke cataract surgery to provide the best outcome to each patient depending on their individual expectations and needs.
Same-day in rooms eyelid procedures (e.g. removing eyelid lesions) with minimal pain and quick recovery time.
Providing clear information to patients about their conditions and treatment plans so they feel empowered in achieving the best outcome.
Endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) surgery (bypassing blocked tear ducts to fix watery eyes) so there is no external scar.
